Flights to Nelson or Motueka:
Nelson airport is less than hour by road from Sandy Bay House (see shuttle and driving information further below). There are daily flights to Nelson airport from a number of New Zealand cities, including Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Flying times are as follows:
- Auckland - Nelson 1 hour 20 minutes
- Wellington - Nelson 35 minutes
- Christchurch - Nelson 50 minutes.
An alternative is to take a light plane or helicopter to Motueka airport, which is approximately 15km from Sandy Bay House.
Shuttles from Nelson
Shuttles can be booked from Nelson to Sandy Bay House through Shuttle Direct (Tony, +64 (0)21 042 0944, $90) or Southern Comfort Shuttles (+64 (0)27 612 4676, $100)
Driving from Nelson
From Nelson airport, take Highway 6 South through Richmond.
At the Richmond roundabout, take the right exit to Highway 60.
Follow Highway 60 for approximately 45 kms through Motueka, over the Riwaka River Bridge.
Just over the Riwaka Bridge, there is a right-hand turn signposted to Abel Tasman National Park via Kaiteriteri and Marahau.
Drive through the Kaiteriteri settlement. Sandy Bay House is on a private road/drive approximately 800 metres(half a mile) up the hill past the end of Kaiteriteri beach, past Breaker Bay and Honeymoon Bay.
The private road/drive to the house is on the sea side of the coastal road, named Kaiteriteri Sandy Bay Road, and is recognisable by a sign for the Bellbird B&B.
If you reach the Ngaio Bay private road you have traveled too far.
Drive up past the Bellbird B&B to Sandy Bay House at the end of the road/drive.
